
On 21 May 2025, Alpha-Klima and Instituto BME held an in-person course in Madrid on advanced climate-risk management in banking, covering regulation, quantitative methods, physical risk assessment, and practical applications for financial institutions.
The session was designed to help banking professionals strengthen their understanding of climate risk from both a technical and strategic perspective. It combined regulatory context, quantitative methods, and practical applications to support more rigorous risk assessment and decision-making.
Participants explored key topics including:
- The evolving regulatory landscape, with focus on EU Taxonomy, ESG risks under Pillar III, and CSRD
- Vulnerability models and quantitative approaches such as VaR and risk scores
- Core tools and methodologies to assess physical climate risk
- A real-world case study and expert round-table discussion
- The integration of ESG and climate criteria into corporate and risk strategy
- Practical insights shared by guest speakers from leading institutions
The course was aimed at professionals working across corporate banking, sustainability, risk, regulation, and consulting, particularly those seeking to better understand, quantify, and communicate climate-related risks in the financial sector.
