Advanced Climate-Risk Management in the Banking Sector course

On 21 May 2025, Alpha-Klima and Instituto BME held an in-person course in Madrid on advanced climate-risk management in banking, covering regulation, quantitative methods, physical risk assessment, and practical applications for financial institutions.

Course focus

The session connected regulatory expectations with the analytical steps needed to identify, quantify and communicate physical climate risk in a banking context.

Participants worked through:

  • The evolving regulatory landscape, with a focus on the EU Taxonomy, ESG risks under Pillar 3 and CSRD.
  • Vulnerability models and quantitative approaches including Value at Risk and risk scores.
  • Core data and methods for physical climate-risk assessment.
  • A case study, practical examples and an expert round-table discussion.
  • The integration of ESG and climate considerations into corporate and risk strategy.

The course was designed for professionals in corporate banking, sustainability, risk, regulation and consulting who need to understand, quantify or communicate climate-related financial risk.
